Fishers of Men

Pennsylvania East Division

Delaware River Recap

On June 11th, 2005 we had 15 teams from the Pennsylvania – East division of The Fishers’ of Men National Tournament Trail compete on the Delaware River launching out of Neshaminy Park just north of Philadelphia. Due to tough closed season circumstances and a tight schedule, tournament anglers from all over Pennsylvania often have little options to fish unlimited horsepower bodies of water without having to travel to outlying states to fish events, making adaptability and quick versatility premium characteristics for successful tournament circuit members! This tidal body of water requires just that, as its highly fluctuating water levels of 6 feet twice a day makes for favorite honey holes to be high and dry as the tide falls. Despite the unique conditions and fish well into the post-spawn period, half the field managed 5 bass limits of 12+ inch fish with a total of 50 largemouths and two smallmouths being brought to the scales for a total weight of 84.26 pounds. Most teams reported catching their fish with soft plastics pitched to wood cover running the river looking for the last portion of low falling tides.

Newcomers to our circuit, Cornell Creciun III and Rick Capper took 1st place with the only bag exceeding double digits as their 11.30 pounds earned them $874.00! Their sack was anchored by the big bass of the tournament at 3.31 pounds. Longtime FOM member Brad Finch with his new rookie partner, George Little secured 2nd place and prize money equaling $436.00 with their sack of bass weighing in at 8.91 pounds. Claiming 3rd place and the final checks of the day were the husband / wife team of Michael and Barbara Piccolo. With this finish, they moved into the coveted “points championship” lead by just 2 points over the father / son team of Randy and Matt Follmer. Finishing one out of the money in 4 th place was Jim and Charles Steiner while Mike Williams and Emerson Hill III rounded out the top 5 with their 7.93 pound weigh-in. Taking the money for 2nd biggest bass of the day was junior Michael Dellavalle fishing with his dad, Joe. The 3.27 pound largemouth earned him $60.00 and the admiration of his father!

The next tournament of the circuit season for the Pennsylvania – East division will be on July 9th, 2005 on the famed Potomac River. This tournament is the replacement for the Beltzville Lake event that had to be cancelled earlier this year due to high water. All the information for this event can be found at our national website www.FOMNTT.com under the Schedules tab or for more detailed information, at http://www.sfvu.com by double clicking on the FOM logo, then hitting the PA-East button.

Special thanks to Pastor Joe Thomas and all the staff at Neshaminy Baptist in Bensalem, Pennsylvania for providing our Friday evening pre-tournament meeting place as well as food. All the teams enjoyed an awesome pot-luck dinner of various casseroles, salads, chicken, spicy meatballs as well as an awesome array of mouth watering desserts! As is always the case with any Fishers’ of Men event, we were excited about the opportunity to gather together for an awesome night of food, fellowship, pre-tournament planning, door prizes and powerful testimony. Much to the enjoyment of everyone, we treated the entire crowd with a viewing of the video done for us by Lindner Media in which Al and Ron Lindner along with Jimmy Houston, Darryl Christiansen and Shaw Grigsby share testimony and personal reflections on the power of knowing the saving grace of Jesus Christ in their lives. Thru the holy spirit of God transforming the message from the TV to the actual relatable circumstances of individuals in the crowd, 2 people’s lives were forever changed as they accepted Jesus Christ and his gift of everlasting life. 7 more individuals were so moved by the message that they were motivated to proclaim a renewed commitment to return to God and follow Jesus in all areas of their lives!

We would like to recognize the special efforts of Rob Hager for assistance in securing our meeting site as well as acting as our assistant tournament director in addition to Don Hamer from Maryland – East for volunteering at this weekend’s event.
